Are You a Candidate for Same-Day Crowns?

In a world where food is fast, shipping is next day, and messaging is instantaneous, we’ve become a society that no longer likes to wait very much. Sayings like “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” have given way to, “How quickly do you need this?” Thanks to digital technology, even dentists can provide long-lasting solutions in a fraction of the time it used to take, namely with same-day crowns.

Here at Farhoumand Dentistry, we’ve heeded the call and equipped ourselves with a new technology called CEREC®, which allows us to offer our patients in Vienna, Virginia, prosthetic teeth in just one visit. No more waiting, no more multiple visits, and no more dealing with temporary gaps in your smile.

To find out whether you’re a candidate for same-day crowns, here’s what you need to know.

A crowning moment

Dental crowns are a go-to tool that allows us to preserve the integrity of your teeth, while also providing you with a solution that blends in seamlessly with your existing teeth. Preserving your teeth, no matter how damaged they may be, is important because what we’re really trying to do is keep your root structure intact. If we can save the root of your tooth, we can avoid total extraction, because pulling a tooth disrupts your existing line of teeth, as well as your jawbone.

With dental crowns, we can correct a host of issues within your natural tooth and protect our work by placing a cap over it. The cap looks and functions just like your natural tooth, allowing you to chew, smile, and speak with confidence.

To give you an idea of the number of problems a crown can help fix, the following is a list of the most common reasons why we turn to dental crowns:

All of these problems and more can be solved with a same-day crown rather than resorting to an extraction.

While you wait

Traditionally, when you needed a crown we took impressions of your teeth and sent them off to an outside lab for custom manufacturing. Once we received the new crown, you would head back in and we’d bond it into place, making any necessary tweaks or adjustments to make sure the crown functioned well and looked great.

With our new CEREC technology, we’re able to skip the outsourcing entirely because we now have the ability to manufacture your new crown right in our office. The CEREC system brings digital dentistry to a whole new level by using computer-assisted design to create the perfect crown for your mouth.

The system takes 3D images of your mouth and, using specialized software, transmits the images to a milling machine, which fabricates your new tooth out of ceramic right on our premises.

The crown is as durable as any crown available, and with the right care, will provide you with a great smile for 10-15 years.

Troubleshooting

Imagine you’ve got a big event, such as a wedding or graduation, and you’re worried about a discolored, broken, or misshapen tooth that will last forever in all of the photos taken on that day. With CEREC, we can make sure that your smile is one for the ages.

And while a great smile is important, so is being able to chew and speak normally. Same-day crowns mean that your teeth are able to function properly without skipping a beat.

So, to answer the question we posed in the title — are you a candidate for same-day crowns? — we believe the answer is “Yes.” This exciting new technology is available to all of our patients and it’s just a call away. Or you can use the online scheduling tool on this website to book an appointment.
